Ophiuchus, the Serpent-Bearer, is a large constellation located in the celestial equator. It is commonly depicted as a man grasping a snake, that is represented by the Serpens constellation.
In Greek Mythology Asclepius was a healer, hero and god of medicine, most well known today for the rod of Asclepius, a staff with an adder curled around it, often seen at Pharmacies. Zeus killed him with a thunderbolt for bringing someone back from the dead and placed his body among the stars, where he remains as the constellation of Ophiuchus. In life and death his symbol was that of a snake.
